sure, it's a little creepy, but no need to pull the nazi card.

we were gonna mention something about the blue ink finger thingy that happened during the SOTU, what with lots of american lawmakers in solidarity with iraqi voters and all (we thought it opportunistic and even a little creepy that they would benefit from the bravery of people whose country we've thrown into dissarray), but were worried that it might come off as overly cynical. boy, were we shooting low.

jeneane garafolo compared it to a nazi salute on msnbc last night. as proper hipsters, we should never take her name in vain, but we think she's being a little tacky. not without her reasons, of course:

...as if [the lawmakers] have solidarity with the Iraqis who braved physical threats against their lives to vote, as if somehow these inked-fingered Republicans have something to do with that.
so really, our logic was similar, we just didn't have an interview on cable tv to get carried away on. and really, the nazi thing is kinda overdone, no? why not compare it to something else, like sammy sosa's ubiquitous finger gestures?

also, iowahawk provides a tragically ironic bit.
